So this past weekend we went to see The Avett Brothers in Columbus, OH; Covington, KY; and Lexington, KY. The shows were truly mesmerizing and we got to hear songs that were rare for them. Columbus was the most energetic show I have ever been to! We got to spend a lot of time with littledeadhead, our new Team Avett friend who is also from KY. We also got to meet some other Avett board members, namely Mr. and Mrs. BobZ. ALSO after the Lexington show we got to meet Seth Avett! It made me so happy to finally meet him! He took a picture with us and then talked to us for a bit. He is so talented, and one of the nicest people I have ever met!

So looking forward to seeing them again!!!

Philly, one day I will see you again!

SO...my traveling friends and I made a trip to Philadelphia. It was a long drive, but we had some good jams going and definitely some interesting conversations somewhere in Maryland (namely Musclin' Bears) And Philadelphia was a great experience, there was so much to see, and we saw the big things all in one day!!!

Friday (the day we got there):
-Checked into our hotel Club Quarters, which was really nice, the refillable water bottles saved us on many occasions!
-rested for a bit
-left and walked to the restaurant we were supposed to eat at McGillin's, it turned out to be shady and 21 and over...
-we ended up eating at an Olive Garden

Saturday:
-First stop of the day: Love Park. It was only a few blocks from our hotel. It wasn't very big, or really that exciting, but we got some pics in front of the Love statue, and went on our way.

-The next stop: Well, the night before we found out how to get around town without walking for really cheap: Philly Phlash Trolleys. They were these purple trolleys that were only $5 dollars for an all day pass! So we waited near Love Park and got on one. The only downside to them was they played the same 3 songs over and over; we all had this doofus one in our heads...

-The next stop: We rode the Philly Phlash to the Philadelphia Art Museum. We walked around and saw some really cool art.

-The next stop: After that we rode the Philly Phlash around town to the Liberty Bell. We went in the center, and walked past a bunch of stuff you could linger and read, to the bell. We looked at it for a bit, took a pic of it and all of us in front of it, then rolled. After that we walked out and snapped some pics of Independence Hall, and goofed around for a bit.

-The next stop: We got back on the Philly Phlash, and rode to Reading Terminal Market. We munched some Cheesesteaks from By George! and had some ice cream from Bassetts. It was a really cool place, so many things to see and eat!

-After that, we left Reading Terminal and went to our hotel. We cleaned up a bit, changed into our Team Avett shirts, then headed to the Trocadero to see the Avett Brothers! We waited in line for hours, but got to talk to other members of Team Avett, and some Philadelphia natives who we shared food stories with (scrapple and ale-8) When we got in we waited another hour, the the opener, Paleface and Mo came out and did a great set, they were the best opener I have ever seen for the Avett Brothers. After that we waited for a bit longer, then the Avetts came out!!! They blew it away, there was so much energy, and they played songs I hadn't heard live, and some of their new stuff (Perfect Space touched my heart!) After the show we stood outside and waited to see if they would come and talk to us, we got to meet Joe again, and Bob gave us cookies!!!

Well, needless to say after that we got a cab back to the hotel, and lthorn83 and I had the worst time with our aching feet...we even resorted to rolling around the room in the desk chair!!!

The next morning we got up and headed back to KY. I was sad we had to leave, but there will definitely be a next time!

Stuff that should have been left out:
-Rude guy at the Avett concert.
-some idiot hitting Nath's car
-nasty bathroom

Oh, and here are some pics!!!

Oh Philadelphia Freedom, Shine on Me I Love You!

When I Think About Philadelphia I Think About:
  • Cheesesteak
  • The Liberty Bell
  • Old guys with white hair...
  • American flags (which remind me of fro...)
  • Rocky
  • Bruce Springsteen (Streets of Philadelphia, duh!)
  • Tom Hanks
  • Badass accents (and badasses in general)
  • B.Franklin
  • Eye of The Tiger

Philadelphia Trip Highlights:
-it was close to everything
-super comfortable beds
-free bottled water!!
-free wi-fi
  • Philly Phlash
  • Philadelphia Museum of Art (Arms & Armor and Modern Art sections were my favorites)
  • Sitting outside the Museum of Art on the stairs and eating breakfast. The weather was amazing!
  • The Reading Terminal Market. Nath found the cheesesteak place he was wanting to eat at (George's) and it was soooo good! Other fun things about the market were chocolates shaped as ears, cheesesteaks, etc. and Gadzooks ice cream! Also, really clean bathrooms considering how many people are there.
  • $5.00 taxi ride from hotel to Chinatown
  • Meeting new people (and some Philly natives) in line for The Avett Brothers concert. They told us about Scrapple, we told them about Ale-8, hot browns and Grippos.
  • Paleface and Mo (openers for The Avett Brothers)
  • THE AVETT BROTHERS!!!!!!!!
  • Meeting Joe Kwon and Bob Crawford outside of the bus after the show at The Trocadero. Bob gave all of us chocolate chip cookies! yum...

Philadelphia Trip Downers:
  • The pillow I brought was awful for car naps
  • Hail and rain storms on the ride there
  • Nastiest bathroom ever in Maryland. It funked me out so bad that I almost threw up
  • Philadelphia rush hour traffic
  • Getting in a wreck right before we got to our hotel (nothing serious, just some idiot scraping up the side of Nath's car)
  • Crazy expensive parking (hotel didnt include parking)
  • Being herded together in line at The Trocadero
  • Standing in place for 4+ hours before The Avett Brothers came out.
  • Not being able to sleep because my feet were throbbing (note-bring better shoes for next Avetts show)
  • Rite-Aid's in Pennsylvania not having booze
  • Not having more time there/having to leave :(

Other Obvious Mentionables:
  • Love Park (the Love statue was way smaller than I thought it would be)
  • The Liberty Bell
  • Independence Hall
  • Seeing the ducks around Philly

Hello

This blog has come about due to a ridiculous trip from Winchester Ky to Philadelphia. during this trip we were all in the craziest state of mind. From making up stupid code names to doing a 50 state poop count. However we all love to travel together and decided it was time for us to blog about our experiences and post videos and pictures of what we do ( like anyone really cares) to remember those oh so important conversations about Musclin' Bears and swirlin' smoke. there is plenty more to come.
